Seniors taking five hot baths in a week may experience improvement of the cardiovascular health

Sauna or steam bath is usually one of the primary services in spas and health and wellness centers. Sometimes, this is included in the basic packages or promo services. But not only for recreational reasons sauna or steam bath may be useful. Researches emphasized the health benefits of steam bath to senior health.

Lowering the risk of high blood pressure for men and reducing the incidence of stroke for both men and women are just some of the advantages of taking sauna. In a recent study, an additional wonders of steam bath includes the improvement of the cardiovascular health. This is more beneficial for seniors.

Unfortunately, not everyone are capable of going to sauna on a regular basis. But there’s no need to worry because the same health benefits could be experienced by taking hot baths.

 

The Research on the Health Benefits of Hot Baths for Elderly

In one study in Japan headed by Prof. Kohara, they gathered data and information of elderly people who took the hot bath. Typically, in a hot bath, the water temperature is greater than 41 degree C. During the study conducted among 60 to 76 years old individual, a single hot bath took about an average of 12.4 minutes.

 

Cardiovascular health assessment among seniors

The study utilized several measures to assess the cardiovascular health of elderly people. Included in these measures are the velocity of the brachial-ankle pulse wave that is generally used to evaluate atherosclerosis. The B-type natriuretic peptide plasma levels are also involved which is the normal determinant of cardiac loading.

 

Five hot baths per week for seniors

The study found that seniors who have taken five hot baths in a week experienced an improvement in their heart health. Scientifically, hot water bath had significant effect on the atherosclerotic and central hemodynamic criterion. Moreover, alongside with hot baths, other lifestyle factors might be considered as well. For example, individuals who are taking a bath regularly may have a healthier diet too.
