You Are Here: Resident Life > Seniors and Downsizing

A lively discussion regarding seniors and downsizing was featured in Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Load program on “Downsizing as a Senior,” broadcasted in December 2010. A central part of the program and discussion was a resident at Portland retirement community Calaroga Terrace, Darlene Lemley. Calaroga Terrace is managed by Encore Senior Living.

This fascinating program delved into the motivations for seniors in regards to downsizing their lifestyle and possessions. It also broached the sensitive topic of adult children helping their parents’ make a transition to either more care at home, or to a retirement or assisted living community.

Some great takeaways from this program includes tips on downsizing a house and possessions, talking to family and children about what things are important to you now and the importance of a senior making the decision for themselves.
